He spent over 25 years in the Jacksonville, Florida, area dedicated to patient care as an expert in his field. Lauded for his work, Dr. Hakaim became renowned for endovascular repair of aortic aneurysms. Beyond his clinical and academic roles, he devoted a small portion of his time to various administrative tasks, which accounted for approximately 20% of his workload. He began his career at the Mayo Clinic in 1998.
Throughout his notable career, Dr. Hakaim’s most recognizable contribution to the field of medicine has been his expertise in aortic stent grafting. Instead of performing open surgeries to address certain femoral aneurysms, he became known for using stent grafts to repair the femoral artery, which offers a less intrusive option for patients. Dr. Hakaim’s success can be attributed to being part of such a reputable and stable organization, which has consistently supported and enabled him to focus on patient care and research without the distractions of daily administrative tasks.
A graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, Dr. Hakaim received a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry in 1978. He then earned a Master of Science and an MD from The Ohio State University in 1984 and became board-certified through the American Board of Surgery. Beyond his education, Dr. Hakaim is a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery, the American College of Surgeons and the American Heart Association, where he has remained at the forefront of his industry. He has also been recognized as a distinguished fellow of the Society for Vascular Surgery. Dr. Hakaim frequently gives back to United Way Worldwide and looks forward to contributing more to the field by focusing on resident education.
