Earlier in her career, she worked as a pediatric anesthesiologist at Hillcrest Healthcare System in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, and Saint John Health System in Tulsa, and was an assistant professor at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, dating back to 2012.
In preparation for her medical career, Dr. Smay obtained a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Duke University and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Illinois, followed by an anesthesiology residency and a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship from the University of Illinois. Additionally, she received a Master of Business Administration in health sector management at Duke University. Dr. Smay is board-certified in pediatric anesthesiology and anesthesiology and has completed the black corporate board readiness program.
As part of her continued commitment to the field, Dr. Smay is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society for Pediatric Anesthesiology, and the American Board of Anesthesiologists and has served on the board of advisors for Transdermal Solutions LLC since 2021. In light of her success, she received a One Team Award from NorthStar Anesthesia in 2023. Dr. Smay’s expertise in pediatric and clinical anesthesiology is due, in part, to her curiosity, lifelong learning, ambition, and a strong desire to make a positive impact on the world. In the coming years, she intends to pivot into an operating leadership or c-suite role, serve on the board of a Fortune 500 corporation, and make a global impact by providing quality health care to underserved populations worldwide.
