Dr. Crowther is an established physician specializing as an anesthesiology third-year clerkship director and anesthesiology residency assistant program director at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School since 2024. Dr. Crowther is also presently working on a study regarding stimulator regulation systems with a grant he received from a neuromodulation company.

Besides his clinical contributions to medicine, Dr. Crowther has taught as an assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School since 2023. Drawing significant satisfaction from this role, he enjoys preparing future physicians for their medical careers. Previously, Dr. Crowther taught as an instructor at Baylor University in the college of medicine from 2011 to 2012. He also gained experience in the classroom as a graduate research and teaching assistant at Rice University between 2003 and 2009. Earlier, Dr. Crowther had the opportunity to serve as a visiting researcher at Beijing Normal University in 2006.

In preparation for his career, Dr. Crowther initially studied German language studies at the University of Bonn in Bonn, Germany, from 2001 to 2002. He then transferred to the University of Kansas in Lawrence, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts in Germanic languages and literature with a minor in philosophy and a Bachelor of Science in cognitive psychology in 2003. Subsequently, he attended Rice University in Houston, achieving a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology in cognitive neuroscience in 2006 and 2009, respectively. From there, Dr. Crowther completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, in 2011 and pre-medical studies at Harvard University between 2012 and 2013 before earning a Doctor of Medicine from Tulane University in New Orleans in 2018. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include the completion of an anesthesiology residency at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City in 2022 and a pain medicine fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston in 2023.

In addition to his formal education, Dr. Crowther received credentials as a licensed physician through the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine. He also holds open-water scuba diver, enriched air diver, and advanced open-water scuba diver certifications through PADI.

Active in his professional community, Dr. Crowther has been a member of the Massachusetts Society of Anesthesiologists investments committee since 2024. Civically, he enjoys giving back to worthy causes. Most notably, he was affiliated with Presbyterian Manor Inc., INOVA Fairfax Hospital and the American Red Cross as a volunteer and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital as a volunteer patient visitor.

As a researcher, Dr. Crowther has contributed to numerous professional publications on topics such as acute and chronic pain, intrathecal drug delivery, and spinal cord stimulation. In light of his hard work, he has received several accolades, including Best Paper by a Student by the Academy of Aphasia and Resident Research Award from New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Eager for future success, Dr. Crowther intends to further his research on neuromodulation to enhance patient outcomes. He is focusing on an implantable device that can be placed in the spinal cord or other areas, such as the arms and legs, to help individuals experiencing pain. His goal is to improve patient treatment outcomes by utilizing innovative implantation technologies that have never been used before.
