Before becoming an acupuncture physician, Dr. McLean garnered success as a registered nurse, including working in pain management and treatment of addictions at Woodview Calabasas Hospital in Calabasas, California and at the Bresler Center in Santa Monica, California. With her work in both professions, she amassed over 60 years of dedication to the health care field.

In preparation for her future, Dr. McLean received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Duke University in 1957, a master’s degree in counseling at Pepperdine University in 1977, and a Doctor of Oriental Medicine from California Acupuncture College in 1986. She also received certification in orthopedic acupuncture from Emperor’s College of Traditional Oriental Medicine, licensure as an Acupuncture Physician in Florida, and additional training in hypnosis, energy medicine,, and shamanic healing.

Adding to her professional expertise, Dr. McLean remains active in several industry-related organizations, including the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). Apart from her work-related accomplishments, she authored a significant book about her personal journey, family influences, and the historical context of the practice of acupuncture titled “Integrative Medicine: The Return of the Soul to Healthcare” published in 2017 through Balboa Press. The book delves into the potential of Integrative Medicine and her passion for healing and holistic care. Dr. McLean previously co-authored “Principles and Practice of Pain Management” in 1993 and “A Manual of Chinese Medicine and Massage” in 1985. She also has chapters in books published by Sacred Stories, including “Shamanism, From Mayhem to Miracles, Crappy to Happy, and Signs” Additionally, she was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award from IAOTP in 2022, Inspired by her parents’ careers in medicine and nursing, the influence and compassion they demonstrated continue to propel her forward.
