Deepak Jasuja, MD, medical director at Columbus Regional Health, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care management.
Dr. Jasuja, a seasoned medical professional, joined Columbus Regional Health a decade ago as an intensivist in 2014. One year later, he became a staff nephrologist and the medical director for nephrology and hypertension services, where he continues to make an impact within the department, addressing regulatory issues, staffing and community outreach while tending to the needs of outpatient, inpatient, home dialysis and in-center dialysis patients. During his tenure at Columbus Regional Health, Dr. Jasuja also garnered success as the section chief of nephrology and hypertension services from 2019 to 2021.
Before being acquired by his health care facility, Dr. Jasuja was an internal medicine hospitalist at Deaconess Health System, a health care provider based in Evansville, Indiana, that serves southwestern Indiana, western Kentucky and southeastern Illinois. He served in this capacity from 2008 to 2012. Dr. Jasuja’s expertise in nephrology, critical care medicine, and health care leadership and management has been instrumental in his career progression.
An esteemed educator, Dr. Jasuja has taught as an adjunct clinical assistant professor of medicine in the department of biosciences, school of medicine, at Indiana University since 2019. He was also recognized as an honorary clinical assistant professor of internal medicine at Kansas City University from 2008 to 2009.
Possessing a rich educational background, Dr. Jasuja received a Doctor of Medicine from the Government Medical College in his home country in Nagpur, India, in 2001. He also completed a research fellowship at the Stroke and Taussig Cancer Center at the Cleveland Clinic in 2005, an internship in internal medicine at Brookdale University and Hospital Medical Center in 2006, a residency in internal medicine at UMPC Mckeesport in 2008, a clinical fellowship in critical medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2013, a second clinical fellowship in nephrology and hypertension at Indiana University Indianapolis in 2015, and a Physician MBA at Indiana University in 2023.
Besides his primary career engagements, Dr. Jasuja has served on the board of the joint venture for dialysis units at Fresenius Medical Care. He has also been engaging as a speaker for Cummins Inc. and Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation. Moreover, Dr. Jasuja is the author of “America on Dialysis.”
Dr. Jasuja was elected a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology and the American College of Chest Physicians. He is also a member of the Renal Physicians Association. In addition to these endeavors, he has been serving on the board of directors for the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana since 2022 and has chaired the organization’s Stuart Kleit committee.
Among many career accomplishments, Dr. Jasuja was responsible for developing a mid-level nephrology and critical care program that streamed the credentialing process, competencies, continued education and evaluation. He also launched an airway program in the intensive care unit, creating an airway cart and algorithm for difficult and failed airways.
In light of his professional and civic contributions, Dr. Jasuja received a National Award in Healthcare Excellence for Patient Experience and a Community Service Award from the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana in 2021 and a President’s Award from the board of directors of the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana in 2023.
