Dr. Spears is an experienced pathologist and health care leader whose career has encompassed decades of success. During his extensive tenure, he has served in numerous leading roles, including chief of staff at Saint Mary’s Hospital, where he was influential as a pathologist. He served in the same capacity at Newman Memorial Hospital and Missouri Delta Medical Center. Today, Dr. Spears remains active as a consultant for a local clinic in Missouri, where he provides his expertise in quality control.
In preparation for his medical career, Dr. Spears received a Bachelor of Science from Southwestern State College in 1970 and a Doctor of Medicine from Saint Louis University in 1976, followed by an internship at SSM Health, Saint Louis University, and residencies in internal medicine and pathology. He also received board certification in anatomic and clinical pathology and specialty training in gynecological cytology. Dr. Spears remains abreast of medical trends as a member of the College of American Pathologists, the American Medical Association, the American Board of Pathology and the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
Besides his professional endeavors, Dr. Spears has been active civically, frequently donating to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Reflecting on his career, he has garnered recognition for his contributions by the Mayo Clinic in 2022. He is grateful for his success and is proud of his work, particularly in diagnosing benign and malignant conditions and supporting patients in managing them. In preparation for the future, Dr. Spears aims to continue consulting while enjoying his free time with his family.
