His commitment to education is evident in his long-standing role overseeing the fellowship training program in critical care medicine at Duke for 25 years as well as a pivotal role in running the sub-internship in critical care medicine for fourth-year medical students within the anesthesia department. His career is marked by significant achievements, including developing a research protocol at Duke University Medical Center and conducting groundbreaking research at Mount Everest Base Camp. Dr. Young’s professional accomplishments has earned him numerous teaching and clinical team awards from Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Young initially supported his ambitions by earning a bachelor’s degree in classics from the College of the Holy Cross in 1983. He subsequently graduated with a Doctor of Medicine from New York Medical College in 1987. He notably completed his residency in anesthesiology and a fellowship in critical care medicine at New York Medical Center. Influenced by high-quality mentors and teachers throughout his training, Dr. Young attributes much of his success to their guidance and support.
In his personal life, Dr. Young is known for his supportive nature and willingness to assist others, whether in medical or non-medical matters. Born in New York City, he is deeply dedicated to his loving family, which includes his spouse Geraldine and their children, Caroline and Christopher. Looking toward the future, Dr. Young envisions exploring new opportunities that may involve increased volunteer activities, consulting work, or serving as a legal expert witness while gradually concluding his medical career.
