Dr. Vialotti is an experienced physician specializing in radiology who has dedicated his career to improving hospice and palliative care. For the past decade, he has been instrumental as a resident medical director at Villa Marie Claire, a hospice in Saddle River, New Jersey. Affiliated with the medical facility since 2011, he began his career there as a hospice medical director before being named to his present position in 2014.
As the resident medical director, Dr. Vialotti is responsible for daily checking on patients’ units and nursing stations. He also makes rounds in patients’ rooms to evaluate their symptoms and conditions. Most of his time is spent reviewing medical records from referring institutions and receiving referrals from hospitals throughout New York, New Jersey, Florida and California. As such, Dr. Vialotti maintains close contact with Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York. Among other responsibilities, he provides palliative and supportive care for patients, as well as primary inpatient hospice support and counseling for the families of patients.
Leveraging decades of success, Dr. Vialotti began his career as a radiation oncologist at New York University Medical Center in 1975. He then joined Hackensack University Medical Center in 1976 as the director of radiation oncology, where he remained for 20 years. Dr. Vialotti also spent 25 years as the director of radiation oncology at Holy Name Hospital before being named the medical director. Moreover, he garnered success as a hospice medical director at the National Cancer Institute.
In preparation for his medical career, Dr. Vialotti received a bachelor’s degree from Columbia College and a Doctor of Medicine from New York Medical College. Subsequently, he completed an internship at New York Medical College, St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center of New York, followed by a radiation oncology residency and radiology-diagnostic residency at the New York University Grossman School of Medicine. Dr. Vialotti is licensed to practice medicine in New Jersey and is board-certified in therapeutic radiology by the American Board of Radiology.
Inspired by his late father, a family practitioner in Manhattan who made house calls until retiring at age 97, Dr. Vialotti learned a great deal from him regarding the importance of improving patients’ lives. His father was one of his biggest mentors. Dr. Vialotti remains passionate about radiation technology and is eager to alter the conversation regarding end-of-life care. Although he was preparing to slowly step away from medicine, he has garnered a new zest for his work at Villa Marie Claire.
As a seasoned researcher, Dr. Vialotti has authored several scholarly works in such publications as Medical Physics and Seminars in Nuclear Medicine. Among numerous professional accomplishments throughout his medical tenure, he was critical in establishing and expanding the cancer program at Hackensack Hospital, the radiation and hospice program at Passaic Beth Israel Medical Center and the cancer center at Holy Name Hospital. Dr. Vialotti was also influential in establishing the advanced, comprehensive end-of-life care program at Villa Marie Claire, providing patients with a beautiful experience that focuses on dignity and quality of life.
In light of his success, Dr. Vialotti has been mentioned by the press for his work in end-of-life care and terminal cancer. He has also been recognized as a Top MD by Consumer’s Checkbook.
