Frederick Lobati, MD, FACP, MRCP, hospitalist at CoxHealth, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medicine.

With nearly three and a half decades of experience, Dr. Lobati has built a distinguished career in infectious disease care. He currently serves as a hospitalist at CoxHealth. In this capacity, he manages adult patients within a hospital setting, provides them with the necessary information upon discharge, and remains involved with end-of-life care such as palliative and hospice care. As a civil surgeon for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, he screens immigrants to ensure they are free from communicable diseases before advancing in their immigration process to obtain permanent residency. His experience also includes serving as assistant professor of clinical medicine at the University of Missouri Health Care from 2014 to 2016, where he was also director of the travel and immunization clinic.

Over the years, Dr. Lobati has gained valuable expertise in consulting and attending roles with the Missouri Department of Mental Health, the Select Specialty Hospital, the University of Missouri-Columbia, Marion VA Medical Center, the Kansas City Missouri Health Department, Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Board, and Mbingo Baptist Hospital in Cameroon. Driven to stay abreast of ongoing industry changes, he has been active as a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the Society of Hospital Medicine, and the Royal College of Physicians. He is also affiliated with the American Medical Association, and the Missouri State Medical Association. In addition to his professional endeavors and affiliations, Dr. Lobati is deeply committed to community service, aligning himself with Show-Me Mercy and the Southern Cameroon Ambazonia Community, where he has served as a fundraiser, counselor, and psychological support.

Laying a solid educational foundation, Dr. Lobati earned a bachelor’s degree in pre-medicine from the University of Dusseldorf in 1984 and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Cologne. He completed a diploma in community health and tropical medicine at Heidelberg University, followed by a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in infectious disease at the University of Missouri, Kansas City School of Medicine. He holds board certification in infectious diseases from the ABIM Foundation and certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine. He obtained medical licenses from the Missouri and Kansas Boards of Healing Arts in 1996. He also earned a preliminary certificate from the University of Cologne, an advanced German language certificate from Rheinische Fachhochschule Köln, and proficiency certification from Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft Essen. His early education includes the GCE Advanced Level from Cameroon College of Arts, Science and Technology, GCE Ordinary Level from St. Bede’s College, and a first school leaving certificate from Ntahmulung Presbyterian Primary School.

Reflecting on his path, Dr. Lobati was awarded a scholarship by the Cameroon government to study medicine in Germany. After completing his studies, he returned home in 1989 and practiced for four years alongside American missionary doctors who valued his dedication and encouraged him to pursue further training in the U.S. They facilitated his move, and he passed the medical exam in 1990, continuing his studies at the University of Missouri where he specialized in infectious diseases. Although he initially planned to return to Africa, marriage and family life led to settling in the U.S.

Given his considerable achievements, Dr. Lobati has received Physician Recognition Awards with commendations through the American Medical Association every year between 1999 and 2023. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in reaching the level of professional training and work-life experience he has despite facing personal challenges. Dr. Lobati was diagnosed with poliomyelitis as a child, which left him with a paralyzed left leg. His resilience and determination in overcoming this challenge are truly inspiring. Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, Dr. Lobati credits his success to his faith in God, his supportive family, and persistence. Looking toward the future, he intends to continue helping people through CoxHealth and the University of Missouri Health Care.
