Frederick Lobati, MD, FACP, MRCP, hospitalist at CoxHealth, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.

With nearly three and a half decades of experience, Dr. Lobati has built a distinguished career in health care. He currently serves as a hospitalist at CoxHealth, a role he has held since 2016, and as a civil surgeon for USCIS at University of Missouri Health Care since 2014. In this capacity, he manages adult patients and specializes in infectious diseases, and as a civil surgeon, he screens immigrants to ensure they are free from communicable diseases before advancing in their immigration process. His duties include patient care, discharge planning with appropriate treatments, and involvement in end-of-life policies and hospice care, with a strong focus on caring for the sick. His experience also includes serving as assistant professor of clinical medicine at University of Missouri Health Care from 2014 to 2016, where he was also director of the travel and immunization clinic and a medical consultant for the Missouri Department of Mental Health during the same period.

Dr. Lobati was also an attending physician at Select Specialty Hospital from 2009 to 2014 and a traditional internal medicine physician at Mercy from 2006 to 2013. He held roles as assistant professor of medicine and infectious disease attending at University of Missouri-Columbia from 2004 to 2006, where he was also a primary provider for patients with HIV, AIDS, and TB, and a medical consultant on tuberculosis for the Missouri Department of Health. Additionally, he serving as lead ER triage physician at Marion VA Medical Center from 2001 to 2004, clinical director of the STD clinic at Kansas City Missouri Health Department from 1998 to 2001, and extern at University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine in 1993. He was an attending physician for the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Board from 1989 to 1993, also treating leprosy patients at Mbingo Baptist Hospital Cameroon from 1990 to 1993.

In addition, Dr. Lobati actively participates as a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, Infectious Diseases Society of America, Society of Hospital Medicine, and the Royal College of Physicians. He is involved with the American Medical Association, the Missouri State Medical Association, and serves as a fundraiser, counselor, and psychological support for the Southern Cameroon Ambazonia Community since 2016, and director of Show-Me Mercy since 2014. In light of his impressive undertakings, he received the Physician Recognition Award with Commendation from the American Medical Association from 1999 to 2023.

Laying a solid educational foundation, he earned a bachelor’s degree in pre-medicine from the University of Dusseldorf in 1984 and an MD from the University of Cologne in 1988. He completed a diploma in community health and tropical medicine at Heidelberg University in 1989, followed by a residency in internal medicine at the University of Missouri, Kansas City School of Medicine in 1996, and a fellowship in infectious disease at the same institution in 1998. He holds board certification in infectious diseases from the ABIM Foundation and certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine. He obtained medical licenses from the Missouri and Kansas Boards of Healing Arts in 1996. He also earned a preliminary certificate from the University of Cologne, an advanced German language certificate from Rheinische Fachhochschule Köln, and proficiency certification from Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft Essen. His early education includes the GCE Advanced Level from Cameroon College of Arts and Science, GCE Ordinary Level from St. Bede’s College, and a first school leaving certificate from Ntmulung Presbyterian Primary School.

Reflecting on his path, Dr. Lobati was awarded a scholarship by the Cameroon government to study medicine in Germany. After completing his studies, he returned home in 1989 and practiced for four years alongside American missionary doctors who valued his dedication and encouraged him to pursue further training in the U.S. They facilitated his move, and he passed the medical exam in 1990, continuing his studies at the University of Missouri where he specialized in infectious diseases. Although he initially planned to return to Africa, marriage and family life led to settling in the U.S. He attributes his success to his Christian faith, supportive family, determination, and persistence. Looking to the future, he remains dedicated to practicing medicine and serving others. He believes that being called to serve in medicine is profound, embodying daily hard work and the privilege of helping the community despite any challenges or hardships.
