He is a founding member of the American Board of Specialists for Interventional Pain Medicine and holds memberships with the American Medical Association, the American Society of Pain & Neuroscience, the American Society of Regional Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, and the American Board of Anesthesiology. Reflecting on his path, Dr. Vilasuso laid a solid educational foundation, earning a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and chemistry from the University of Miami, graduating cum laude, and a Doctor of Medicine from the Miller School of Medicine in 2004. He completed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of South Florida from 2004 to 2008, followed by a fellowship in pain medicine from 2008 to 2010. Inspired by his passion for anesthesiology and a desire for more direct patient interaction, he sought a career where he could build lasting relationships and make an immediate impact. He takes great pride in offering solutions for chronic pain through minimally invasive procedures, focusing on reducing opioid dependence. He is among the few pain specialists in the country to perform intradiscal ozone and chemonucleolysis, further inspired by his father, who introduced these techniques to the U.S. in 2005, which motivated him to pursue these innovative methods.
Dr. Vilasuso attributes his success to his family’s legacy in medicine. Coming from a long line of physicians, including his grandfather, father, uncle, and cousin, he proudly represents a third-generation tradition of exemplary care. His father greatly influenced his approach to patient care, inspiring him to treat each individual with the same dedication and attention he would give his own family. In the coming years, he plans to expand his reach by transitioning his practice from Fort Lauderdale to his hometown of Miami, aiming to offer advanced pain medicine services to a broader population. Additionally, he intends to train other doctors in his methods to ensure his approach to patient care is consistently applied, leaving a lasting impact on the field and continuing his family’s legacy of compassionate and innovative care. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his children, playing piano, and traveling, as well as the study of language, being proficient in English, Spanish, and French.
