He has been a neurologist in private practice at Riverhills Healthcare Inc. since 2015, following his role as a neurologist at Becker Neurological Institute Inc. from 2007 to 2015, and at Riverhills Neuroscience from 1990 to 2007. Earlier in his career, he served as an instructor in the Department of Pathology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital from 1988 to 1990, a consulting neurologist at Jackson Park Hospital from 1985 to 1986, and a course instructor at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago during the same period. In addition to these roles, he was medical director at Gateway Rehabilitation Hospital from 2011 to 2012, assistant medical director from 2004 to 2011, and served as director of the Traumatic Brain Injury Program at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital from 1994 to 1996. He also held the position of secretary and treasurer at Riverhills Healthcare Inc. from 1994 to 1996 and was a consulting neurologist at Francis Scott Key Medical Center in 1987.
Mr. Becker has made significant contributions to the field through numerous presentations and publications on topics such as Alzheimer’s treatment, cranial nerves, and the neuropathology of AIDS at various medical seminars, including the National Coalition of Physicians Against Family Violence in 1994 and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1989. His published work includes co-authoring studies on Alzheimer’s disease, HIV-associated neuropathology, and spinal disorders in leading journals such as the Journal of Neuropathology & Experimental Neurology and The Lancet. He has also been involved in extensive research, serving as both principal and sub-investigator in several studies, and contributed to speakers bureaus and authored numerous abstracts and presentations. He has held memberships with various organizations, including the Commonwealth Neurological Society, where he served on the board of directors and as president, and the American Academy of Neurology. He has also been involved with the Kentucky Medical Reserve Corps, the Brain Injury Alliance of Kentucky, and the American Heart Association’s Stroke Council. Additionally, his affiliations include the American Medical Association, the Academy of Medicine of Cincinnati, and the Ohio and Kentucky Medical Associations.
Laying a solid educational foundation, Dr. Becker earned a Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University in 1979 and a Doctor of Medicine from Northwestern University Medical School in 1982. He completed his internship in internal medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital from 1982 to 1983, followed by a neurology residency from 1983 to 1986, and pursued a research fellowship in the Department of Pathology, Neuropathology Laboratory, at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine from 1987 to 1989. He is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Society for Neurorehabilitation, with licensure in Kentucky and Ohio. He attributes his success to the encouragement and support of his parents, and in the coming years, he plans to focus on his hobbies, including fishing, traveling, skiing, golfing, reading, and spending time with his granddaughter.
