Marc S. Berger, MD, CM, FAAFP, chief executive officer and physician at Hourly Medical Consulting, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in geriatric medicine.

With nearly four decades of experience, Dr. Marc S. Berger has built a successful career in geriatric medicine. Since 2020, he has run his own practice, Hourly Medical Consulting, where he specializes in complex case consultations. His work focuses on reviewing intricate medical situations, offering expert recommendations, suggesting alternative treatments, and helping patients understand their medical records and treatment plans. He does not provide primary care or prescribe medications but acts as a consultant, providing second opinions and expert advice without assuming ongoing care. In 2023, he joined Mobile Physician Services as a part-time physician, offering personalized, home-based care to elderly patients, including those in assisted living facilities, with a focus on Medicare patients. He also works at a medical marijuana clinic in Florida, certifying patients and educating them on effective use under state regulations. His experience includes his role as an associate professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine from 2015 to 2017, where he also served as a physician with the McAllen Family Medicine Residency Program. In 2015, he was an associate adjunct professor at Morehouse School of Medicine and previously held the position of assistant clinical professor at Hahnemann Medical School, served as faculty associate program director for the Family Medicine Residency Program in 1994, and worked earlier as an electronic engineer at the California Institute of Technology.

Dr. Berger has made significant contributions to the medical field through his research and writing, including authoring “Try This Mental Status Exam for Telehealth Visits” in Family Practice Management, “Cost of e-Prescribing Drugs vs OTC Purchase” in the American Journal of Medicine, and “Misuse of Beers Criteria” in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. He was the founding editor of the “Photo Quiz” column in American Family Physician in 1998, guest editor for Clinics and Primary Care in 1997, and published research proposals at the National American Academy of Family Physicians Scientific Assembly in 1996. His notable work also includes the article “Umbilical Stones” in the Journal of Family Practice, and he presented the innovative R.E.C.L.A.I.M. program at the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine Conference. He is affiliated with the American Academy of Family Physicians, Florida Academy of Family Physicians, Florida Medical Association, and the American Medical Directors Association. He also served as a past board member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians and chairs the Group for Teaching Procedures committee.

Laying a solid educational foundation, Dr. Berger earned a Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in electrical engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 1978, followed by a Doctor of Medicine from McGill University in 1982. He has been board-certified in family medicine since 1986 and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in geriatrics from the American Board of Family Medicine, earned in 1990. In light of his impressive undertakings, he earned third place for innovative research from the Florida and Georgia Academy of Family Physicians, Resident of the Year, Teacher Faculty Member of the Year, and recognition from the Scarlet Key Society for his outstanding medical student paper. He takes great pride in developing innovative teaching methods and changing the way physicians practice, and attributes his success to having an innovative, inquisitive personality and a willingness to go places nobody has gone before. He is slowly retiring, but he still wants to keep up advocacy for major changes in medicine while teaching part-time and enjoying ailing photography.
