James Bennett Bragman, DO, FACP, physician, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care and education.
With nearly four decades of experience, Dr. Bragman specializes in internal medicine, geriatrics, and primary care sports medicine, working as a self-employed physician since 1989. Additionally, he has served as an assistant clinical professor of internal medicine at Wayne State University for 30 Years. He has also contributed to the field of health care as a national medical radio expert on CNN for several years and was the original voice over artist for the National Commercial B Complex, Amino Acids, Less Than Half a Cup of Coffee Energy, and 5-hour Energy, and is a radio voice talent. Additionally, he is a member of the American College of Physicians Inc., a Philadelphia-based national organization of internal medicine physicians who specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of adults.
Laying a solid foundation for his future success, Dr. Bragman pursued an education at Wayne State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in biology in 1978. He continued his academic efforts at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University, earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 1981. Following these accomplishments, he completed an internship at Oakland General Hospital and a residency at Beaumont Hospital and is board certified in internal medicine. In light of his impressive undertakings, he was recognized as one of the Top Doctors in Detroit in 2023, with a pending recognition for 2024. Additionally, he was awarded the title of Fellow by the American College of Physicians Inc.
Reflecting on his career, Dr. Bragman was deeply influenced by the passing of his grandfather from metastatic colon cancer during the Detroit riots. This event profoundly impacted him and his father, who worked in the life insurance industry. Their meaningful discussions gave him valuable insights and inspiration, which played a crucial role in shaping his decision to pursue a career in medicine. He attributes his success to honesty, transparency, and ethics in dealing with patients. He has also learned to be more discerning and to ask more questions when hiring, as he has experienced difficulties due to his trusting nature. He emphasizes the importance of continuously striving for improvement in all aspects of life and believes that one must continually work at one’s craft to avoid stagnation and regression.
In the coming years, Dr. Bragman plans to continue his medical practice while also pursuing his passion for teaching. He is eager to serve as a spokesperson, leveraging his extensive radio experience to excel in public speaking and product endorsements, and is determined to regain visibility and impact through media platforms like radio, television, or networks, with a particular interest in opportunities in New York. He is also open to new opportunities despite frustrations with local hospital support and hopes to pass on contacts and opportunities to his son, who is starting a career in journalism and sports broadcasting. He advises aspiring professionals to be aware of the dynamics of competition and trust in professional environments and the importance of finding mature and secure individuals to work with. Additionally, outside of his professional endeavors, he enjoys playing golf and tennis.
