Kevin T. O’Mara, MD, Associate Professor at The School of Medicine at Creighton University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in emergency medicine.

With years of experience in level 1 trauma centers to his credit, Dr. O’Mara has excelled as an associate professor at the School of Medicine at Creighton University since 2020. In this position, he shares his extensive knowledge and experience in biology and medicine with the next generation of physicians. He previously provided critical care as an attending physician in the Emergency Department at Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital from 2013 to 2015. Prior to these roles, he served as an attending physician with Lake Health from 2011 to 2013. In 2009, Dr. O’Mara initially worked in the field of medicine as an emergency physician with Sutter Emergency Medicine. 

Dr. O’Mara began his career with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as a senior scientist at the Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California, conducting animal research between 1989 and 1993. Soon thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, during which time he flew the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon and garnered his Critical Care Air Transport certification. Before shifting his attention to emergency medicine and medical education on a full-time basis, Dr. O’Mara completed a residency at the Henry Ford Hospital in 2002.

Harboring an innate curiosity and a passion for science, Dr. O’Mara first pursued a formal education at the University of Notre Dame, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science in biology in 1976. He continued his studies with a Master of Science in cellular physiology at the University of Miami in 1982. During his time at the University of Miami, he conducted extensive research at the Institute for Cellular and Molecular Evolution while also practicing in a part-time capacity as a respiratory therapist. Dr. O’Mara eventually concluded his academic efforts at the Medical College of Ohio in 1999, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine.

Beyond his primary responsibilities, Dr. O’Mara has participated in various endeavors outside of his immediate circles. Licensed to practice medicine in seven states across the U.S., he provides his wealth of expertise remotely to patients as a member of MDLIVE, a telemedicine service. He is also a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, from which he had previously obtained his board certification as an emergency medicine physician. Furthermore, Dr. O’Mara has contributed as an author of articles that have been published in scientific journals.

Dr. O’Mara has attributed his success to his persistence as well as his fearlessness in trying new things, his reluctance to become discouraged, and his steadfast commitment to doing the right thing. As a testament to his versatile career and myriad accomplishments, he has been presented with NASA Awards for his contributions to space research and the Top Doctor Award from Phoenix Magazine in 2020. He is incredibly proud of his work with NASA and of having treated tens of thousands of patients over the course of his career in emergency medicine. In the coming years, Dr. O’Mara hopes to conclude his illustrious career in a part-time position at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and Barrow Neurological Institute, part of the University of Arizona.
