Sarah Rikabi, MD, ICU Hospitalist at NorthShore University HealthSystem, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in internal medicine.

Dr. Rikabi began her career as a researcher for the University of Oxford between 2013 and 2014. She subsequently served as a physician for the National Health Service Foundation Trust for King’s College Hospital in London between 2014 and 2016. After immigrating to the United States in 2019, she entered her internship and currently works as an Intensive Care Unit Hospitalist at NorthShore University HealthSystems. In 2022, she authored “Survival Outcomes in Hospitalized COVID-19 Patients With New-Onset Cardiomyopathy” for the American Heart Association, Inc.

Attributing her success to her drive, passion, and love of medicine, Dr. Rikabi utilized these assets to earn her Doctor of Medicine degree from Damascus University in 2012. Between 2020 and 2023, she completed her internal medicine residency at the Cleveland Clinic. The initial desire to become a doctor came about during her formative years and was fueled by her mother’s illness. After staying with her mother throughout multiple surgeries and a liver transplant, she found that she was impressed by the systems in place in the intensive care unit by the nurses and doctors.

Being a young female immigrant graduating from an international school and working in a male-dominated area, Dr. Rikabi constantly has to work harder to prove herself and to be taken seriously. To combat these biases in the field, she engages in volunteer work with Drop of Milk in Syria and seeks to maintains calm in all situations. She also participates as a member of The General Medical Council in the United Kingdom and the American College of Physicians in the United States.

NorthShore is affiliated with the University of Chicago, and Dr. Rikabi hopes to be able to teach there to continue supporting residents and pass her knowledge on to the next generations of doctors. In the upcoming years, her goal is to have children and raise a family. She is interested in stock market trading and real estate while also entertaining the idea of working in hospitals in the Middle East. When she is not working, she dedicates her time and attention to writing, watching Netflix, and practicing mindfulness.
