He garnered a stellar reputation as a hospice director from 2004 to 2013. He established himself at the Department of Medicine at Reston Hospital as vice-chairman from 2008 to 2011 and as chairman from 2012 to 2015.

Dr. Iyer continued his career as principal investigator and director of clinical research at Iyer Clinic Research Center since 2010. He contributed to the Loudoun Medical Group as director of clinical research from 2022 to 2023. Additionally, he found success as the founder and chief executive officer of ActivPower, Inc.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Iyer pursued an education at Nalanda Medical College of India where he earned a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 1983. He continued his academic efforts at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, obtaining a Medical Doctorate in biochemistry, protein peptide chemistry, molecular immunology, leprosy, and tuberculosis in 1988. He completed a postgraduate degree in biochemistry and molecular biology that same year. He fulfilled his residency in internal medicine at George Washington University Medical Center in 1996 and was selected for research fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, Harvard Medical School, and the Children’s Hospital & Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Iyer has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He found success with his written work “The Reaper’s Dance: 1000 Days of COVID” in 2023. In addition to his primary vocation, he remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He was a member of Greater Washington Association of Physicians of Indian Origin.

In light of his impressive undertakings, Dr. Iyer has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was presented with the Young Investigator Award. The Iyer Clinic has consistently received the “Top Doctor Award in Northern Virginia” each year since 2013. This prestigious recognition, which is based on patient satisfaction and peer nominations, is conferred to only around 800 out of 10,000 physicians in the region.
