Dr. Stubblefield began his career in the engineering field by accepting a role at Norcross, Inc. as the manager of the energy engineering department between 1977 and 1978. After fulfilling his desire to become a medical doctor, he worked as chief of the Department of Emergency Medicine and Primary Care at Silas B. Hays Army Hospital at Fort Ord between 1990 and 1994. Beginning in 1994, Dr. Stubblefield held multiple positions for the Monterey County Emergency Medical Service, including chief and director until 2016, then continued to thrive as the medical director until 2019. In 2016, he opened his practice, James Stubblefield, MD, Inc., at which he serves as the medical director.
Attributing his success to his parents, from whom he learned about leadership, Dr. Stubblefield utilized this skill to earn a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Science in bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1977. He decided to become a doctor during his formative years, yet he lacked confidence. After twelve years in the U.S. Army, he ultimately chose to study medicine and obtained his Medical Doctorate from Hahnemann University in 1992. He notably completed his internship in general surgery at Letterman Army Medical Center in 1983 and his residency in emergency medicine at Madigan Army Medical Center in 1990. Additionally, he was acknowledged as a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
