Norman E. Taylor, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Utah’s Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medical education, clinical research and anesthesiology.
Dr. Taylor is an accomplished medical professional with decades of experience to his credit. Since 2018, he has found success as an associate professor of anesthesiology at the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine at the University of Utah. Alongside his academic role, he is a practicing anesthesiologist. When he is not in the operating room, Dr. Taylor spends his time conducting research on the neurobiology of pain and the causes of chronic pain. He aims to discover better treatments for chronic pain conditions through his work.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Taylor was a practicing physician at Massachusetts General Hospital from 2016 to 2018 and a research affiliate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2011 to 2018. From 2012 to 2018, he garnered experience as an assistant professor of anesthesia at Harvard Medical School, and from 2012 to 2016, he worked as a practicing anesthesiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Taylor began his medical career as an anesthesia resident at the same hospital from 2009 to 2012. From 1998 to 2000, he was a process engineer with Dura Pharmaceuticals Inc.
To prepare for his career, Dr. Taylor attended Brigham Young University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering in 1998. In 2006, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in physiology from the Medical College of Wisconsin, after which he concluded his higher education with a Doctor of Medicine at the same institution in 2008. Adjacent to his primary roles, Dr. Taylor has contributed his knowledge as an associate editor of the Journal of Anesthesia and Analgesia.
For his professional accomplishments, Dr. Taylor received the Kosaka Award for Outstanding Science from the International Anesthesia Research Society in 2018. He was additionally named the Michael K. Cahalan Presidential Chair at the University of Utah. To keep abreast of his career, he maintains affiliation with the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Association of University Anesthesiologists, the International Anesthesia Research Society and the International Association for the Study of Pain. In his spare time, Dr. Taylor enjoys skiing, running and mountain biking.
