Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Bakir has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He served as second captain in the Iraqi Army Reserve Corps for two years. Dr. Bakir also found success with his written works, including “From Baghdad to Chicago: Memoir and Reflections of an Iraqi-American Physician” in 2018. He likewise authored numerous highly cited publications and was invited to speak internationally to discuss his expertise in lupus nephritis.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Dr. Bakir has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was presented with the Life Achievement Award from the Iraqi Medical Sciences Association in 2022. Dr. Bakir was also recognized among the Leading Physicians of the World and Leading Physicians of America. He also accepted two awards from the Cook County Graduate School of Medicine.
