Leveraging over 25 years of expertise in his chosen field, Dr. George has distinguished himself through his role as the chairperson of cardiothoracic surgery for Michigan at the Ascension Medical Group since 2019. Specializing in minimally invasive care and open heart surgery, Dr. George utilizes a deep well of experience in valve repair and replacement procedures, as well as treating congenital heart disorders.
Outside of his work at Ascension Medical Group, Dr. George has worked as a clinical professor at various institutions, including Michigan State University, the University of California San Francisco, and the University of Central Florida. Likewise dedicated to civic advocacy, he has worked in the past to provide free medical care to patients in Florida and Michigan, and remains an avid supporter of Go Red for Women, one of the American Heart Association’s signature health initiatives.
Dr. George initially studied at Michigan State University, from which he received a bachelor’s degree. Following this accomplishment, he went on to attain a Doctor of Medicine from the Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1998, after which he undertook a residency in general surgery at Wayne State University in 2003. He was also inducted as a fellow in cardiac surgery at George Washington University and Johns Hopkins University, and in heart failure treatment at the Cleveland Clinic. Well-regarded for his achievements, Dr. George was elected as a fellow of both the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Surgeons.
Though Dr. George has received numerous professional accolades, he remains firm in his belief that nothing compares to saving lives. As a testament to his expertise, evaluations conducted by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons of the Ascension Medical Group have shown marked improvements in the quality of cardiac care at the institution. This feat was made possible by his reorganization efforts throughout the health system’s facilities in Michigan. Looking toward the future, Dr. George hopes to continue making great strides in enhancing the quality of cardiac care at Ascension Medical Group.
