Mark D. Griffith, MD, FAAPM & Rehab., CWSP, PCWC, Medical Director and National Medical Officer at St. Elizabeth Health, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in advanced wound care.

With decades of experience to his credit, Dr. Griffith has excelled as the medical director of advanced wound care for St. Elizabeth Health since 2010. Prior to this position, he served as the medical director of rehabilitation with St. Elizabeth Health between 1994 and 2014. Dr. Griffith began his career as a resident in general rehabilitation at the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Peoria, Illinois from 1981 to 1984.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Griffith pursued an education at Illinois Wesleyan University, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology, summa cum laude, in 1977. He concluded his studies at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1981, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine in 1981. In addition to these accomplishments, Dr. Griffith obtained his certifications as a physician in wound care and a wound specialist physician as well as a certification in physical medicine and rehabilitation from the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Between 1983 and 1989, Dr. Griffith was active as a military officer and lieutenant commander of the Medical Corps of the U.S. Navy Reserve and U.S. Navy. He subsequently contributed to the Indiana National Guard Reserve as a military officer, colonel and commander of the medical section from 2008 to 2022. Furthermore, he was appointed as the board president of the Clinton County Historical Society. Dr. Griffith has also found success with his written works, having authored “Heroes Next Door” in 2003 and “Neighborhood Headquarters” in 2005.

Attributing his success to his tenacity in challenging the status quo, Dr. Griffith was notably recognized with a Special Achievement Befitting the State of Texas as Admiral of the Texas Navy by Governor Rick Perry representing the State of Texas in 2012. Likewise, he was presented with a Lifetime Achievement President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2023. Among the many highlights of his career, he is incredibly proud of expanding the boundaries of wound care to ensure the expertise and certification of medical and allied healthcare providers at the Franciscan Physician Network. Looking toward the future, Dr. Griffith hopes to continue his career in the medical field while eventually turning his attention to becoming a part of the national wound care community.
