Drawing on more than 35 years of experience, Dr. Torbati is a proven health care professional and educator, specializing in emergency medicine and critical care. He recently took on his position as the Levin-Gordon chair of emergency medicine at Cedars-Sinai in 2023, having otherwise operated as an associate professor of emergency medicine at the institution since 2014 and as a co-chairman and medical director for the Ruth and Harry Roman Emergency Department since 2013. Likewise, Dr. Torbati has worked with the health care facility since 2001 as an attending emergency physician. He originally began his career in 1988, working as a mathematics and sciences coordinator and instructor for the Cal America Education Institute until 1991. Over the course of his career, Dr. Torbati has similarly provided his expertise to various health care boards and committees as needed for pharmaceuticals, therapeutics, infectious disease control and health care improvement.
Ever committed to his profession, Dr. Torbati remains affiliated with several pertinent organizations, including the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Board of Emergency Medicine. Well-regarded for his scholarly output as well, he has contributed and edited numerous papers pertaining to his field throughout his tenure in the field, chiefly editing the Western Journal of Emergency Medicine since 2013. As part of his vocational journey, he also cultivated a formal education, ultimately achieving an MD at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine in 1996 and subsequently completing his residency in emergency medicine at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center in 1999. To commemorate his achievements, Dr. Torbati has been honored with a plethora of accolades, most recently including recognition as a Super Doctor in Southern California in 2022 and 2023. Attributing his success to his passion and dedication to his profession, he is particularly proud to have supported and led his department to become the second-highest-rated facility in the country.
