James H. Ransom, MD, Retired Board-Certified Allergist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors  for dedication, achievements, and leadership in healthcare.

With decades of experience to his credit, Dr. Ransom is currently retired, having previously excelled as a board-certified allergist practicing out of the Topeka Allergy & Asthma Clinic between 1968 and 2008. During this tenure, he established a clinical research brand for the aforementioned clinic while contributing his wealth of knowledge to over 23 published research papers. Moreover, he was active as a member of the medical staff at the Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka, Kansas for more than 20 years, for which he was appointed as the president from 1974 to 1975. Notably, Dr. Ransom also co-established Aller//Guard Inc., which sold the Morrow Brown needle to allergists throughout North America and marketed dust mite-proof bedding encasings and pillows.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Ransom pursued an education at the University of Iowa, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1958. He subsequently graduated from the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine in 1962, after which he began his career as a medical doctor operating out of a family practice in Grinnell, Iowa from 1964 to 1968. He later refined his skills through an internship at Broadlawns Hospital, specialty training at the University of Pittsburgh, graduate coursework in immunology at Harvard University and studies under Dr. Thomas Petty and Dr. Harry Morrow Brown. In 1974, Dr. Ransom obtained his certification from the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. 

Following his retirement, Dr. Ransom dedicated himself to his poetry, which he published in “Immortal Prairie and Other Poems” through Friesen Press in 2015. He previously authored and co-authored myriad papers concerning new asthma and allergy medications featured in peer-review journals. Looking toward the future, Dr. Ransom hopes to continue building upon his profile as a literary figure by publishing a second book of poetry.
