Maria Cecilia Corsaro, MD, MS, Retired Director of Breast Imaging at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in breast imaging.
Retired in 2020, Dr. Corsaro most recently excelled as the director of breast imaging at the SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University’s medical center in Brooklyn, New York. She garnered additional experience as a radiologist and an assistant clinical professor with the same institution and served for six years as an investigator and public health advisor in the area of sexually transmitted diseases. At the SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, her department received a Certificate of Excellence from the Cancer Service Program of Central Brooklyn in 2011. Dr. Corsaro has multiple published works in her field, including co-authoring “A Woman’s Guide to Safe Abortion” in 1982 and “STD: A Commonsense Guide to Sexually Transmitted Diseases” in 1982. In 1977, she contributed to “Special Report: Genital Herpes.”
In preparation for her career, Dr. Corsaro attended the College of Staten Island, earning a bachelor’s degree in 1970. She went on to earn a Master of Science in health education from Columbia University in 1977 and a Doctor of Medicine from the Yeshiva University Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1993. Dr. Corsaro completed an internship at Mount Sinai Hospital, a residency in diagnostic radiology at the Maimonides Medical Center, a fellowship in cross-sectional imaging at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and a fellowship in mammography and women’s imaging at the SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University medical center. In 1998, she earned her New York State Medical License.
To remain abreast of changes in her field, Dr. Corsaro has maintained membership with the Journal of the American Medical Association. During her education, she earned a scholarship from Columbia University and two scholarships from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, cultural events, museums, traveling and fashion. In the coming years, Dr. Corsaro hopes to educate herself in marketing and promotion and spend more time traveling.
