Thakor G. Patel, MD, MACP, FRCP, Chief Executive Officer at Russ & Associates LLC and Chairman at Sevak Foundation Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nephrology.

With decades of experience to his credit, Dr. Patel has excelled as the chief executive officer of Russ & Associates LLC since 2022, the chairman of the Sevak Foundation since 2012 and a staff nephrologist at the Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland since 1993. In addition to these appointments, he was active as an adjunct associate professor of medicine for the Uniformed Services of the Health Sciences, the national program director for renal diseases, diabetes and oncology, gastrointestinal diseases, allergy and immunology with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and the director of the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. Dr. Patel began his career in the U.S. Navy between 1976 and 1998, advancing to the rank of captain of the medical corps while additionally serving as a staff nephrologist and an internist.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Patel pursued an education at Sherwood College, from which he earned a bachelor’s degree. He subsequently concluded his formal studies at Baroda Medical College, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Patel completed an internship and fellowship in nephrology at the State University of New York Downstate Health Sciences University.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Patel has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his immediate professional circles. As a volunteer staff nephrologist, he contributed to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Likewise, Dr. Patel has been responsible for training medics and healthcare professionals to conduct basic health screenings, medical tests, immunizations and health education for underserved communities in developing countries through the Sevak Project.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Patel has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career, including Awards from the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin, a Legion of Merit from the U.S. Navy, a Meritorious Service Award, an Award from the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States. Further recognized for his service in Operation Urgent Fury as well as the Fleet Hospital Five in Saudi Arabia, he attributes his success to the experience he gained in making and implementing policy across his tenure in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Looking toward the future, Dr. Patel hopes to stabilize the Sevaak Foundation so it may operate as a self-sustaining organization that can expand to more countries in the coming years.
