Since 1989, Dr. Petito has excelled as an optometric physician at Petito Eyecare. In this post, he is responsible running the practice, handling administrative tasks, and seeing patients. His area of expertise is vision rehabilitation, and he spent two decades as the primary optometry representative to organizations such as the National Quality Forum, America Health Care, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the Physicians Consortium for Performance Improvement.
Dr. Petito prepared for his career in optometry by attending the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University, where he earned a Doctor of Optometry. He completed his residency in pediatric vision and vision training. Currently, he is trying to transition his practice to the next generation of practitioners, as he hopes to have more time to publish his written work, including articles and white papers.
Dr. Petito attributes his success to his commitment to improving any system he works with. He always aims to leave whatever he touches better than he found it. For his accomplishments, he was named a Distinguished Practitioner by the National Academies of Practice and Optometrist of the Year in 2022 by the Florida Optometric Association. In 2009, Dr. Petito was inducted into the National Academies of Practice.
Prior to his current post at Petito Eyecare, Dr. Petito garnered experience as a staff optometrist at the New York Eye and Ear Hospital. Additionally, he served as co-chief of primary care services and chief of the Strabismus and Amblyopia Clinic at the State University of New York Optometric Center of New York. From 1983 to 1989, Dr. Petito shared his expertise as an assistant professor with the State University of New York. He has contributed to various books and articles in national publications and keeps abreast of developments in his field through affiliation with professional associations. Dr. Petito is a fellow of the National Academies of Practice and a fellow and diplomate of the American Academy of Optometry.
