Jan Lee Engle Santos, MD, MHA, Director of Research and Professional Development for Community Health Centers and PACE SeniorCare with Piedmont Health, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.
In his current post as the director of research and professional development for Community Health Centers and PACE SeniorCare with Piedmont Health, Dr. Santos is responsible for finding and increasing the company’s portfolio of research projects within the organization and in collaboration with other organizations. He manages a team of 15 scribes who provide document support for their providers, and his other duties include data analysis and budget tracking. Dr. Santos’ areas of expertise include population health, data analysis, quality improvement, and clinical operations. Alongside his current position, he has shared his knowledge as an adjunct assistant professor at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health since 2021.
Dr. Santos attended Robeson Community College and earned an Associate of Arts. He continued his higher education at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in biology, and later earned a Master of Arts in microbiology from Indiana University Bloomington. In 2014, Dr. Santos graduated from the Ross University School of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine. He went on to earn a Master of Health Administration in health policy and management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and holds numerous professional certifications. Dr. Santos is a Basic Life Support for Healthcare Instructor and Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider through the American Heart Association, and he holds a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt from UNC Health, which he earned in 2016.
For his accomplishments in health care, Dr. Santos earned the Dean of Adult Online Education Award for Excellence in Teaching from Campbell University in 2021 and a Professor of the Year award from Campbell University’s Raleigh Campus. In 2019, Wake Technical Community College named him Adjunct Instructor of the Year. He maintains membership in the American College of Medical Quality, the Healthcare Financial Management Association, the American College of Healthcare Executives, and the Association of Clinicians for the Underserved. In the coming years, Dr. Santos hopes to advance further within Piedmont Health and join an organization on a national level.
