Additionally, he serves as the chief of ophthalmology for the South Texas Veterans Health Care System, having originally taken the position in 2017. Dr. Brewer has also acted as an adjunct assistant professor at the Brooke Army Medical Center and Wilford Hall Medical Center since 2019 and at UT Health San Antonio since 2017.

Prior to his current roles, Dr. Brewer operated as a clinical assistant professor at the Tulane University School of Medicine between 2016 and 2017. He was also an adjunct professor at the University of Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Science from 2015 to 2017. He is also well regarded for his military service, having honorably served as the chief of ophthalmology at the Keesler Medical Center on Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi from 2014 to 2017 and as an ophthalmology flight surgeon and general medical officer at the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine in Texas between 2010 and 2011. Dr. Brewer originally began his career as a research lab manager at the Cardiovascular Research Center and Texas A&M Health Science Center at Texas A&M University from 2003 to 2005.

As part of his vocational journey, Dr. Brewer cultivated his formal education, beginning with his time at Baylor University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 2003. He subsequently continued his studies at Touro University and achieved a Doctor of Osteopathy in 2009. Having also completed postdoctoral coursework in general surgery, he completed his residency in ophthalmology at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium, as part of the Brooke Army Medical Center and Wilford Hall Medical Center, in 2014. In addition to his academic credentials, Dr. Brewer is also board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Well regarded for his accomplishments in the field, Dr. Brewer has been honored with several accolades over the course of his career, including an Excellence in Teaching Award from UT Health San Antonio in 2019 and an Achievement Medal from the U.S. Air Force in 2014. In addition to his professional achievements, he is also known for his scholarly output, having authored and co-authored several academic pieces. As part of his dedication to his endeavors, he remains affiliated with several industry-related organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association and the Texas Medical Association. Attributing much of his success to his grit and ability to overcome new challenges, Dr. Brewer hopes to continue flourishing in his field in the coming years.
