Following obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in science from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas in 1966, Dr. Garrett-Shaver later continued her education with a Medical Doctor from the University of Arkansas For Medical Sciences College of Medicine in 2000, followed by a residency with the University of Arkansas Medical Center (UAMS).
Dr. Garrett-Shaver provided superior education as assistant professor in family medicine with UAMS and Area Health Education Center from 2003 to 2018 and residency director with UANS South in Magnolia, Arkansas from 2009 to 2018. Since the latter year, she has excelled as a practitioner with South Arkansas Family Care Center in El Dorado, Arkansas. Her professional affiliations include the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Board of Family Physicians.
Dr. Garrett-Shaver attributes her success to her hard work and her husband’s commitment to her success. Having great support from her peers and students also was a great help. As a career highlight, she cites attending medical school in her fifties and taking up scuba diving in her sixties.
