Following obtaining a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in Bangalore, India, Dr. Sekar completed residency training in England. Trained as a gastroenterologist, he provided superior care with Ottawa Civic Hospital in 1976 and then prospered as owner and medical director of Star Endoscopy in Ottawa for seven years and then as a gastroenterologist with Provis Endoscopy in Ottawa and La Vie Executive Health Centre. In addition, he has imparted his knowledge as a professor with the University of Ottawa.
Dr. Sakar’s honors for his medical expertise include a Canadian Association of Gastroenterology Award for Best Research on Non-Ulcer Dyspepsia and the Mekhri Prize Award for Highest Marks in Physiology. His professional memberships include the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology, Royal College of Physicians of Canada and Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom.
According to Dr. Sekar, he entered the medical profession because of his mother. He grew up in Bangalore, India and when his father became an attorney, his mother urged him to follow his passion. As a career highlight, he cites his introduction of two to three new major therapeutic procedures in gastroenterology with Ottawa Civic Hospital.
