He subsequently earned his medical degree at Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa in Iowa City in 1978. Dr. Larson completed his residency in psychiatry at Dartmouth-Hitchcock/Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital from 1978 to 1980. He later obtained a Master of Science in preventative medicine and environmental health, studying psychiatric epidemiology and biostatistics at the University of Iowa College of Public Health in Iowa City, graduating in 1981.
Dr. Larson is certified in child psychiatry and psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Inc. He holds a license to practice medicine in the states of Iowa and Wisconsin. He has previously worked as an attending psychiatrist, an assistant professor and a consulting psychiatrist at various institutions. He has also served as volunteer faculty and a lecturer at the University of Nebraska and Creighton University Medical Center, both in Omaha, Nebraska. Moreover, he is the president of the Ohio chapter of the Tourette Syndrome Association of America. Dr. Larson has also penned and co-authored several books.
