After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in clinical laboratory science from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, where he was recognized as the Student of the Year, Dr. Hess continued his education with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 2005 from the Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, California. He then served an internship in 2006 and a residency in emergency medicine in 2009 with Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills.
Dr. Hess began his career as a physician for Lakes Urgent Care from 2007 to 2009. During this time, he also worked as a staff physician for the emergency departments at Harbor Beach Community Hospital and McKenzie Memorial Hospital. Since 2010, Dr. Hess has provided superior care as an emergency medicine physician with Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills. In this capacity, he stabilizes and treats patients who are experiencing acute health problems or traumatic injuries.
Active as a medical director for Parastar, Community EMS and Beaumont mobile medicine from 2016 to 2020, Dr. Hess also gained administrative experience as the assistant medical director, medical director and deputy medical director for Health Emergency Medical Services Western Wayne Medical Control Authority from 2017 to 2021.
Dr. Hess has imparted his knowledge as a as a clinical assistant professor for Michigan State University in East Lansing since 2014. He has also prospered as the vice chairman of the department of emergency medicine at Beaumont Farmington Hills and the medical director for Superior EMS. His professional memberships include the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians and a fellowship in the American College of Emergency Physicians.
Dr. Hess attributes his success to having a supportive family and supportive colleagues. Being the first physician in the family, he has started a new tradition of which his family is very supportive. He cites his and his patients’ persevering through the COVID-19 pandemic to be a career highlight. In coming years, his goal is to move into a more administrative role in the hospital.
