Shamyla Farrukh, Pediatric Emergency Medicine Attending Physician at Northwell Health Staten Island University Hospital, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pediatric medicine.
Following coursework at the City University of New York, Dr. Farrukh obtained a Doctor of Medicine in 2011 from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth in Hanover, New Hampshire. She then served a pediatric residency from 2011 to 2014 at North Shore-LIJ Health System, Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York and later a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine with Barnabas Health. Since 2017, Dr. Farukh has provided superior care as an attending pediatric emergency physician with Northwell Health Staten Island University Hospital.
As a pediatric emergency physician, Dr. Farrukh serves as a specialist in the care of children and teens who are acutely ill or injured. In this capacity she deals with medical emergencies, detects problems in children who are unable to be patient and cooperative, and helping to ease the pain and anxiety that a medical emergency can cause families.
Dr. Farrukh maintains that the most rewarding and exciting part of her job is seeing sick children that she treated improve and regain health as time passes. She became involved in her profession because her brother Sherav has Down syndrome. Since she was very young, she worked with him and his fellow students at school. Furthermore, she focused on biology in school, which interested her in medicine and pushed her into pediatrics. In the coming years, her intention is to conduct additional lectures and simulation training.
