Colette Haywood, Director of Adult Medicine at Family Health Centers of Southwest Florida, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in adult medicine and controlling blood pressure.
Following earning Bachelors of Science in nursing and management with the Grenada School of Nursing, Dr. Haywood followed with a Bachelor of Science in medical sciences in 2003 from St. George’s University, earned in Granada. She continued her education with a medical doctorate in 2008 from St. George’s and a Master of Business Administration in health management and policy in 2020 from the University of Miami Herbert Business School. She also served a residency in family medicine from JFK Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey.
Dr. Haywood has provided superior care as a physician, director of adult medicine and advisor with Family Health Centers of Southwest Florida since 2011. Her responsibilities include patient assessment and treatment of chronic illnesses, patient medication and health education, overseeing other physicians and allied medicine professionals within family health centers, discussing medical issues with staff, problem-solving and updating medical guidelines. She is also involved with the Virtual Medication Therapy Management Program to provide pharmacies patient education on medications.
Dr. Haywood’s numerous honors acquired from her overall excellence include a Certificate of Achievement Bronze Standard on Blood Pressure Control Compliance, Certificate of Achievement Bronze Standard on Diabetes Control Compliance, Certificate of Achievement Gold Standard on Colorectal Cancer Screening Compliance, Certificate of Recognition, Family Health Centers of Southwest Florida and Firestarter Award, all from Family Health Centers of Southwest Florida; inclusion in the Gold Humanism Honor Society of St. George’s University; Iota Epsilon Alpha, American Health Council; Physician’s Recognition Award on Continuing Medical Education from the American Medical Association; and Pinnacle Professional Member, Continental Who’s Who.
Being the lead for National Target Blood Pressure Control and the cholesterol initiative by the American Heart Association has been Dr Haywood’s most notable accomplishment. She was selected to lead the largest clinic that the family center had. Family Health Centers distributed a thousand blood pressure machines and coordinated with the chronic disease management team to educate and monitor patients. The effort has eventually gained them a national recognition as the Practice of Distinction in contributing to blood pressure control.
In the coming years, Dr. Haywood hopes to be involved in global research on health through technology advancement or consulting in order to make an impact in healthcare worldwide and improve the quality of care provided by healthcare institutions. She wishes to continue making communities healthier and empowering people.
