Dr. Sheikh commenced his journey in the medical field by earning a Doctor of Science from the University of Michigan in 1990, followed by a Doctor of Medicine from the Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1994. He went on to gain initial experience as an intern and resident at the Brown University Rhode Island Hospital in Providence through 1997, at which point he joined Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Between 1997 and 2002, he excelled in varying roles at the institution, including resident, chief resident, fellow and chief fellow.

Progressing in his career, Dr. Sheikh served as a hospitalist at Franklin Square Hospital Center in Baltimore for one year before joining the Washington Hospital Center in 2004 as a tele-nuclear medicine specialist, where he remained for six years. Simultaneously, he taught as a clinical assistant professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2004 until 2015, when he went to offer his expertise as an associate professor at the Columbia University Medical Center in New York City through 2017. Dr. Sheikh then taught at the Temple University Health Systems as a clinical professor for one year until joining the faculty at Mount Sinai Health System in New York City until 2021.

Since 2021, Dr. Sheikh has excelled as a clinical professor at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio, as well as the medical director and chief of nuclear medicine/PET at Kettering Health Network in Kettering, Ohio. In his role, he spends most of his time in a clinical setting, conducting routine works, but is also involved in teaching residents, handling administrative responsibilities in building the Theragnostic program and leading all its committees. Civically, Dr. Sheikh has also served as a physician for the Miriam Clinic, a free outpatient clinic, since 2012.

To remain abreast of his industry, Dr. Sheikh maintains professional affiliation with the American College of Nuclear Medicine, American Roentgen Ray Society, Pakistani Society of Nuclear Medicine and Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging. Dr. Sheikh attributes his success to being able to connect to colleagues of like-mind and like-direction, being able to collaborate and move forward. Looking toward the future, he aims to continue to promote clinical innovation and hopes to be remembered for bringing advanced ideas to the forefront of clinical innovation.
