Jan Buch, Retired Consultant in Cardiology at Pfizer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.
With a long career in medicine to his credit, Dr. Buch began his professional endeavors at Rigs Hospital, with the department of cardiology and aviation medicine from 1969 to 1975 and the department of cardiology’s invasive laboratory from 1977 to 1983. He subsequently served Copenhagen University for several years as a physician and a specialist in cardiology and internal medicine with the university hospital. Dr. Buch rose to the post of medical director with Pfizer, where he most recently served as consultant in cardiology from 2009 to 2015, prior to his retirement. Additionally, with Pfizer, he was the global team leader for cardiovascular metabolic endocrine obesity from 1992 to 2009.
Dr. Buch prepared for his accomplished career in health care at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, where he completed coursework in anatomy. He continued his academic efforts at Copenhagen University, graduating with an MD in 1969. Subsequently, he completed a medical and surgical residency at Diakonissestiftelsen from 1975 to 1977. In addition to his degrees and experience, Dr. Buch also holds certification in cardiology and internal medicine.
A contributor of articles to professional medical journals, Dr. Buch has the largest private collection of Japanese wood block books in Scandinavia, with more than 2,000 volumes from 1968. He is also the holder of Pfizer’s Caduet patent, which sold for more than $400 million in profits in its best years. For his accomplishments, he is the recipient of a Pfizer Achievement Award from the ASCOT Project in 2005, as well as numerous grants from the Danish Cardiological Society from 1969 to 1987. Dr. Buch has also maintained membership with the Danish Bibliophile Club, the Danish Society of Internal Medicine, and the Danish Cardiological Society, among numerous others. A recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, he has also been featured in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who in the World.
