Francisco R. Jaume-Anselmi, MD, Director of the Department of Medicine at Hospital La Concepcion, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in cardiology and education.

Since his high school years, Dr. Jaume-Anselmi had his sights set on becoming a physician, no matter what it took. In 1959, he received a BS from the University of Puerto Rico, and in 1962 obtained a MD from the prestigious University Salamanca in Spain. Moving forward with his medical requirements, Dr. Jaume-Anselmi completed an internship in Aguadilla at the District Hospital in 1963 and a residency in internal medicine at the VA Hospital in San Juan under Dr. Eli A. Ramirez Rodriguez and Dr. Jose Ramirez Rivera in 1969. In 1971, he completed a fellowship in cardiovascular physiology at the VA Center in Wood, Wisconsin, while also wrapping up his 1966 to 1968 service as a captain in the U.S. Air Force at the Kirtland Base in New Mexico. Today, Dr. Jaume-Anselmi is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Cardiovascular Diseases and the American Board of Critical Care Medicine.

Backed by more than 50 years of professional service in medicine, most recently, from 1986 to 2019, Dr. Jaume-Anselmi served as the director of the department of medicine and program director of the internal medicine residency program at Hospital La Concepcion, one of the oldest hospitals in the Americas dating back to 1512. With a similar time frame, from 1983 to 2019, he also worked part-time at a private practice in San German. Once completing his medical school requirements, Dr. Jaume-Anselmi served as the director of the cardiovascular section at the Mayaguez Medical Center from 1971 to 1983. Devoted to providing an exceptional education to budding medical students, he taught at the Ponce Health Science University as a professor, associate professor and assistant dean of clinical affairs between 1986 and 2019. He also served the Puerto Rico Medical School an assistant clinical professor from 1975 to 1983 and the University of Puerto Rico as and lecturer in biology and physiology for one year.

In his notable 57 years of practice and service to patients, Dr. Jaume-Anselmi has been recognized for his grand contributions to his field on numerous occasions. In 2004, he was the recipient of the Laureate Award from the Puerto Rico Chapter of the American College of Physicians and, in 2001, he was granted the Humanism in Medicine Award by the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey. Additionally, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Society in 2000 and was the recipient of the Professional Distinguido en Medicina from Camara de Comercio del Oeste de Puerto Rico in 1995. Dr. Jaume-Anselmi attributes his career success to the mentors who motivated and inspired him over the past five decades, including Dr. Rodirquez, Jose Ramirez Rivera and Elie Ramirez.

Dr. Jaume-Anselmi is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American College of Cardiology and American College Chest Physicians, as well as a member of the American Heart, American Medical Association, American Association for the Advancement of Science, New York Academy of Sciences, Puerto Rico Medical Association and Colegio de Médicos Cirujanos de Puerto Rico. To attest to his legacy, Dr. Jaume-Anselmi can also be found in the seventh and eighth editions of Who’s Who in American Education and the first edition of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.
