Howard J. Peters, OD, Author and Optometrist at Eye Q, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in optometry and literature.
A distinguished optometrist turned fictional author, Dr. Peters received an OD from Northampton College in 1961, paving the way for his renowned optometry career. Dr. Peters was inspired to pursue the profession by his late uncle, who pioneered work in the late 1940s in the first mass-production of contact lenses to the public in the United Kingdom. He went on to work for the Optimax Clinic and Dolland & Aitchison Ltd. in the United Kingdom, as well as Trevor Woodhams in Atlanta, Georgia, where he focused on work in refractive surgery. Having owned three of his own optometry practices, Dr. Peters was also a public speaker on the “Psychology of Hypnotism.” Looking back on his professional career, he recalls being congratulated by his father for passing his final examination on his first attempt as a defining moment of his life. From his practice, Dr. Peters will never forget examining and helping a partially blind woman regain her sight, as she no longer needed to utilize her walking stick or seeing-eye dog.
After retiring from optometry, Dr. Peters had an interest in writing futuristic and political stories, as well as political commentary, stating he is extremely supportive of “common sense.” He has published one book, “Download: An Alternative Story of Noah & His Ark” in 2007 and is writing the sequel, “Upload,” which is an alternative story of the future. Dr. Peters is a lifetime fellow of the College of Optometrists, member of the American Optometric Association, secretary of Knightsbridge Speaker’s Club in London, and councilor to the North London Borough of Barnet. Additionally, in 1978, Dr. Peters was elected Conservative Borough Councilor to Barnet Borough in North London.
