Dr. Luna completed his undergraduate education at the University of Texas Pan-American where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2002. He then pursued his medical education first with The Autónoma de Guadalajara earning a Doctor of Medicine in 2007. He joined New York Medical College for a Fifth Pathway Internship in 2008 and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.
Dr. Rene I. Luna is a respected voice in his specialty. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG). Dr. Luna is affiliated with several professional organizations. He is a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS). He is also active locally as a member of the Texas Institute for Robotic Surgery (TIRS), Texas Medical Association (TMA) and the Hidalgo-Starr County Medical Society (HSCMS).
Throughout his career, Dr. Luna has been recognized for his contributions. Named one of the Top Doctors in Texas by Super Doctors Rising Stars featured in Texas Monthly Magazine in 2019. He was also named one of Houston’s Top Docs in H Texas Magazine during his time in Houston. He has been ranked #2 in the state of Texas and #6 in the United States for Single-Site Gynecological Robotic Surgery. The Women’s Hospital of Texas named him Physician of the Quarter and he received and Excellence in Teaching Award from Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
