Jian Zhao, President, Professor and Physician has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pathology and academic administration.
Dr. Zhao was inspired to go into the medical profession because of his personality issue and his environment. He wanted to make a change and have an impact on people’s lives. His parents, Minglun Zhao, and Shujing Shen, were in the medical field and were great influences on his decisions. Dr. Zhao’s wife, Xiao Feng Li, is also a doctor and has been a constant system of support throughout his career. Since 2004, Dr. Zhao has leveraged his skills and expertise as the president of Orlando University. In addition, he has taught as a professor in health medicine and management at the institution since 2005.
Prior to joining Orlando University, Dr. Zhao taught at Nanjing University, the University of Central Florida and Guangdong Medical University. He has also held leadership roles, such as serving as the President and CEO of Oxford Diagnostics since 1997. In addition, he has provided his skills as the executive director of Colonial Medical Center and as a laboratory director of diagnostic molecular pathology at Orlando Regional Healthcare. Earlier in his career, he was a resident and fellow at Yale University, a residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, a postdoctoral fellow at Rockefeller University and a visiting fellow at Brandeis University.
Dr. Zhao prepared for a career in the medical field by first earning an MD from Guangdong Medical University in 1982. He later received a PhD at Oxford University in 1987 and an MBA from the University of Central Florida in 1998. He is a lifetime fellow of the College of American Pathologists. Since coming to the United Kingdom and the United States, Dr. Zhao has worked and talked to more than 40 Nobel Prize winners. His supervisor at Rockefeller was a Nobel Prize winner. He considers the people he has worked with as honest and ordinary people who inspired him.
