Sushma Jani, Psychiatrist at Community Behavioral Health, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in psychiatry.
Dr. Jani has always known she wanted to pursue psychiatry. With the encouragement and support of her parents, she graduated from B.J. Medical College in India with a Bachelor of Science and completed a science internship at Mithibai College in India. Her path then led her to the U.S., where she earned an MD in adult psychiatry from Indiana University and an MD in child psychiatry from Johns Hopkins University. Over the years, Dr. Jani enhanced her professional standing by becoming certified as a medical review officer and in addiction medicine and child psychiatry. Further, she garnered experience as a child psychiatrist at Johns Hopkins University Hospital, the chief consultant and psychiatrist at the Baltimore Detention Center, the medical director of the Devereux Foundation’s Chesapeake Network, the medical director of Riverside Hospital, and an associate clinical professor at the University of Maryland, among other positions.
Now, Dr. Jani is thriving as the medical director of Community Behavioral Health, the chief medical officer of Maple Shade Youth and Family Services, and an emergency pediatrics physician at Howard County Hospital. Her community is in an under-served part of Maryland, so she has made it her mission to create a model for increasing services in these types of areas and for overcoming the stigma of mental health issues. Once she is done, Dr. Jani will present it to the American Psychiatric Society. She attributes her ongoing success to her ability to overcome difficulties and to her passion for her field.
