Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Abebe has held several notable positions, including medical director at Casa Promesa within the Acacia Network for six years and program director of the HIV AIDS Program at Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center, ArchCare, for an impressive 16 years. Prior to his tenure in the United States, he served as a medical attending at Addis Ababa University Hospital in Ethiopia for eight years. His career also includes three years as director of the sub-acute unit at Jewish Home and Hospital and as an attending physician at Montefiore Hospital. Additionally, he has served as an adjunct assistant professor at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

A recipient of numerous accolades and awards, Mr. Abebe was recognized by the Rockefeller Foundation for his fellowship in clinical epidemiology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and also completed a fellowship in neurology at McGill University, Montreal General Hospital. He was featured in the New York Daily News as one of “The HIV Warriors” and was selected as a Notable Health Care Leader by Crain’s New York Business for his contributions to the COVID-19 pandemic response.

Mr. Abebe’s career highlights span over 25 years of dedicated care for individuals with HIV/AIDS and successful management of COVID-19 outbreaks in a high-risk nursing home setting. Collaborating with healthcare professionals and the New York State Department of Health, he ensured effective strategies for infection control. He attributes his success to the unwavering support of his family, especially his wife, and the guidance of colleagues and mentors. Committed to serving others, he plans to continue teaching at a medical institution while pursuing his passion for medicine.
