Stefan Octavian Ciurea, MD, Hematologist at UCI Medical Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in hematology.
With years of experience to his credit, Dr. Ciurea has excelled as a hematologist in the UCI Medical Center, a part of the University of California Irvine system. Moreover, he has been active as a stem cell transplant physician, the director of stem cell transplant and the cellular therapy program at the University of California Irvine. Previously, he served as an attending physician for stem cell transplant at the University of Texas’ MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas for 12 years. Dr. Ciurea has also found much success with his written works, having published more than 70 papers on Haploidentical stem cell transplantation throughout his career.
To support his career, Dr. Ciurea pursued an education at Universitatea de Medicina si Farmacie Iasi, from which he earned a Doctor of Medicine. He subsequently refined his skills with residencies and fellowships at Pinnacle Health Hospitals, the University of Illinois and the University of Texas’ MD Anderson Cancer Center. As a testament to his professional success, he has been presented with a Clinical Innovator Award from the University of Texas’ MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2015, the High Impact Clinical Research Support Program Award from the University of Texas’ MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2014 and the Resident of the Year Award from Pinnacle Health Hospitals. Attributing his success to his family and mentors, hard work, and desire to improve the stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy practice, Dr. Ciurea hopes to continue building the stem cell transplant and cellular therapy program at UCI Medical Center by obtaining grant funding for important projects and developing a new form of therapy for cancer patients by utilizing natural killer cells.
