The institution serves as a leading pioneer in robotic spine surgery, having been one of the first four hospitals worldwide to perform such surgeries out of 6,000 total hospitals. Dr. Alleyne particularly specializes in performing spine surgeries, having performed many operations over the course of his extensive career.
In 2015, Dr. Alleyne took on the role of president of the OSNC. Furthermore, since 2015, he has also worked as the chief of orthopedics at the Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, California. As part of his dedication to his profession, he also remains affiliated with several industry-related organizations, including the New York Academy of Sciences, the North American Spine Society and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Alleyne is also well-regarded for his scholarly output, having authored a case report on diffuse histiocytic lymphoma for the Mount Sinai Journal of Medicine in 1983.
Prior to embarking on his vocational journey, Dr. Alleyne pursued a formal education, beginning with his time at Columbia University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in molecular biology in 1979. He subsequently continued his studies at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and received a Doctor of Medicine in 1983. Dr. Alleyne began garnering professional experience at the Yale New Haven Hospital, as part of the Yale University School of Medicine, where he completed an internship in general surgery between 1983 and 1984 and his residency in general surgery at the hospital between 1984 and 1988. Additionally, Dr. Alleyne participated in a spine fellowship at the New England Baptists Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1989.
In light of his fulfilling career, Dr. Alleyne attributes much of his success to his studies of martial arts. Particularly, he taught Wing Chun Kung Fu for many years, which teaches students and practitioners to find speed in slowness and to repeat procedures and processes until perfection can be attained. To wit, Dr. Alleyne has found that many of these principles naturally apply to the fields of surgery and health care. Accounting for his accomplishments, he has been most notably proud of holding nearly 40 patents for intuitive new technologies that can be utilized in spine surgeries. Looking to the future, Dr. Alleyne hopes to see his patents purchased by major companies so that they can be properly used to help others.
