Specializing in hematology and oncology, he has served as a hematologist-medical oncologist at GTR Oncology since 2018. In this role, he is primarily responsible for patient care in his hospital, in addition to serving in a number of hospital committees. Prior to his current position, Dr. Whitecar operated as the president of Columbus Hematology & Oncology PA from 1997 to 2018.

Prior to embarking on his vocational journey, Dr. Whitecar pursued a formal education. Having studied at Thomas Jefferson University, he holds a Doctor of Medicine from the Jefferson Medical College, which he achieved in 1964. Furthermore, he honorably served in the United States Army for several years as a medical officer. To commemorate his service, Dr. Whitecar was honored with a Meritorious Service Medal.

As part of his dedication to his profession, Dr. Whitecar remains affiliated with several industry-related organizations, including the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the Mississippi State Medical Association. Additionally, he maintains his membership with Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society. Adjacent to his primary vocation, Dr. Whitecar also remains committed to civic advocacy, participating with his local Medical Executive Committee and serving as the chairman of the Department of Medicine at GTR Oncology.

Well regarded for his accomplishments in the field, Dr. Whitecar has been honored with several accolades over the course of his career, including the Henry M. Phillips Prizes in Medicine and Surgery, the Edward J. Moore Prize in Pediatrics, and the William Ware Memorial Prize. In light of his accomplished career, he largely attributes his success to his passion for his work. To wit, he is most notably proud to have been named to the American Association for Cancer Research’s 50 Year Club for achieving 50 years of research in the field. Dr. Whitecar looks forward to continuing his work in the health care industry in the coming years.
