Dr. Hitchens has had a successful career as an Indiana Regional Clinical Pharmacist with Wexford Health Sources Inc. between 2017 and 2021, and has been the owner, founder, and principal of Write Rx Medical Communications and Consulting since 1994. From 2009 to 2016, she was a consultant pharmacist with Pharmakon Long Term Care Pharmacy Inc., and from 2007 to 2009, she was an outpatient staff pharmacist with the VA Outpatient Pharmacy in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Hitchens has further shared her knowledge as an assistant adjunct professor of pharmacology with the University of Indianapolis, the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Butler University, and Clarian Health Partners Inc.
In preparation for her career, Dr. Hitchens attended Purdue University, earning her Bachelor of Science in pharmacy in 1977, her Master of Science in Business Administration in 1982 from Indiana University, and her Doctor of Pharmacy from Purdue University in 1998. She also holds professional certifications in her field, including Board Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy, advanced curriculum and core curriculum certifications from the American Medical Writers Association. Dr. Hitchens is certified in basic life support by the American Heart Association and in Immunization and Medication Therapy Management by the American Pharmacists Association. (CGP is now BCGP and has to be recertified, i.e., 2015, 2020, 2027)
Dr. Hitchens has authored and contributed to numerous articles in professional journals as an accomplished medical writer. She was an editor and coordinator for the column “Clinical Twisters,” an associate editor of “Natural Medicine Comprehensive Database,” and an author of 17 cover stories for trade journals. She maintains affiliation with the Indiana Pharmacists Alliance and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. Attributing her success to her love of science and desire to help others, in the coming years, Dr. Hitchens hopes to continue finding better ways to help more people, specifically the elderly population.
