Adewale Odukoya, Physician at Woodland Heights Memorial Hospital, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in emergency and palliative care.

Originally hailing from Nigeria, Dr. Odukoya obtained a Medical Doctor from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine in Memphis, Tennessee in 2016. He subsequently completed a residency in family medicine in 2019, a fellowship in emergency medicine in 2020 with the University of Tennessee in Jackson, Tennessee and a fellowship in palliative care with Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Missouri in 2021. He is board certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine and is licensed to practice in Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas. Dr. Odukoya’s professional affiliations include the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, American Medical Association and American Board of Physician Specialties.

Since 2021, Dr. Odukoya has provided superior care as a physician with Woodland Heights Memorial Hospital in Lufkin, Texas, where his specialties include emergency medicine and palliative care with chronically or terminally ill patients, and also as a clinical professor with the University of Houston. Crediting his success to his faith and upbringing, Dr. Odukoya recognizes the contribution of his family through their tireless support. Much of his motivation comes from the strong desire to help underserved and less fortunate populations. He became interested in medicine when he was volunteering for a church in Nigeria and visited rural communities to help conduct general medical checkups and educate people in preventive medicine. It was then that he developed a passion for providing medical care to the underserved. Dr. Odukoya defines overcoming the challenges of being an immigrant and a person raised by a single mother as his most important achievement, and in the coming years is planning to start a clinic or a hospital in Nigeria as well as provide scholarships for students at his alma mater in that country.
