Andrea Gail Scherer, Pediatric Neurosurgeon at Nemours Children’s Hospital and Assistant Professor at University of Central Florida College of Medicine, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pediatric neurosurgery.
Inspired to become a doctor while witnessing her mother attend nursing school and then work as a nurse, Dr. Scherer quickly gravitated to neurosurgery after job shadowing a pediatric neurosurgeon during college. An expert in treating cranial facial disorders, brain tumors and numerous other neurological-related issues, Dr. Scherer has served in her current role at the hospital since 2017 and as a professor since 2021.
In 2005, Dr. Scherer obtained a bachelor’s degree in pre-medical preparation and Japanese from Ball State University, where she earned a study abroad scholarship to Tokyo Gakugei University and was named Outstanding Senior in Japanese. She earned an MD in 2010 and served a residency in neurosurgery from 2010 to 2016 at Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Scherer served a fellowship in the aforementioned discipline at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health in 2017.
Dr. Scherer is the co-author of numerous important papers, articles and book chapters related to her field of expertise. Moreover, she is a resident member of the American Academy of Neurological Surgery and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. In 2014, Dr. Scherer courageously carried out volunteer work in pediatric neurosurgery in Kijabe, Kenya. Notably, she is the recipient of the Who’s Who Humanitarian Award.
