He is also a well-respected hospitalist, having worked at multiple hospitals. Prior to embarking in his medical education, Dr. Moreno practiced and excelled as a registered respiratory therapist working for a few years while doing his undergraduate work.
Dr. Moreno decision to pursue a career in healthcare was heavily inspired by his grandfather, who had found success as a physician in his native country of El Salvador. He completed his undergraduate coursework beginning at Citrus College-Glendora and Mt. San Antonio College before obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry and biology from California State University, Fullerton. Dr. Moreno subsequently earned a Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of California Irvine School of Medicine. Throughout the following three years, he underwent residency training at St. Mary’s Medical Center-Long Beach/Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
In the fall of 2021, Dr. Moreno was featured in the Vallejo Times-Herald, Los Angeles Times, as well as numerous Spanish media outlets after undergoing a double lung transplant at Ronald Reagan University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center. He had previously been hospitalized for several months and placed on a ventilator and an ECMO machine due to a particularly debilitating case of COVID-19. After his illness, he collaborated on the article titled “COVID Lungs: Transplants Are The Last Resort for Many California Patients” which detail his personal ordeal and the lasting effects of COVID-19 from his personal and professional perspectives. Since recovering from the life-saving procedure, Dr. Moreno has dedicated significant effort towards educating underserved communities about the importance of vaccines as well as general preventive measures for chronic conditions.
In addition to his empathetic personality, Dr. Moreno attributes a great deal of his success to the continuous commitment of his professional skill set. He is extremely proud of his commitment to his medical oath which was evident by attending myriad of individuals during the first waves of the pandemic, many of whom required emergency medical services. In the coming years, Dr. Moreno intends to further his contributions towards educating his patients in order to improve the overall health of his local community. He plans to be an educator and advocate for organ donation, and is deeply grateful to his donor and family.
Dr. Moreno states that his miraculous recovery from COVID-19 is attributed to his deep belief: God first, then medical science! In his free time, he enjoys playing Latin percussion and spending time with his family.
