After initially obtaining a Bachelor of Science in computer science from Columbia University, Dr. Acholonu continued his education with a Doctor of Medicine from SUNY Upstate Medical University in 2003. He has provided superior care as a physician with New York-Presbyterian Hospital and later as an obstetrician-gynecologist, currently serving as chief of minimally Invasive gynecological surgery with Long Island Jewish Medical Center at Northwell Health from 2020 to the present.

Since 2015, Dr. Acholonu has been associated with the Jamaican Awareness Association of California, Inc. In what he considers to be a career highlight, working with the group gave him opportunity to go to Jamaica not just to treat patients but also to teach minimally invasive gynecologic surgery to a community that can benefit from it and was not exposed to it.
What initially inspired Dr. Acholonu to become involved in his profession was his uncle who was a role model and an OB/GYN. Growing up, he developed in interest and science and going to hospitals, and he also had a growing desire to help his community.
